No way would I want the Hawks to give up a draft pick for Mayfield (even a late pick) or take on a significant portion of his contract. I've said from the beginning of this discussion that I'd be open to signing him if he's cut. Even then, I'd be concerned about the potential downsides for team chemistry. I'd want Pete and John to make sure Baker knows nothing's being handed to him and that he's good with that.
Like that, there would be no risk for Seattle. If Mayfield proves himself worthy, great. If he doesn't, and if he makes trouble in the locker, we can cut him. He's shown flashes of enormous potential but continues to make bad plays with consistency. He'd be a reclamation project.

The last game against KC was a very good game. If Lock plays like that, I think the Hawks are good with him going forward.

With benefit of hindsight, I'm sure Baker would agree that he should have gotten surgery rather than kept playing last year. The year before, 2020, he posted a passer rating of 95.9 with 3,563 yards, 26 touchdowns and 8 interceptions in 16 games. The lowly Browns made the playoffs, where they beat the rival Steelers and nearly beat the Chiefs.
Jimmy Garroppolo has been to the NFC Championship game 2 out of the last 3 years with a Super Bowl appearance. I'd argue the 49ers have a much better supporting cast, but QB play is still crucial. Like Mayfield, he would represent a clear upgrade at QB. I'm just not convinced that he can stay healthy.
These are the two NFL starting caliber quarterbacks on the table for us. We can only surmise what these team's records would have been with Drew Lock or Geno Smith running the offenses, but I'd wager they are .500 teams or worse. Drew Lock can't even get OTA reps with the starters over Geno, which coupled with his play at the end of last season gives me no confidence that he has much to offer.
There isn't a team in the league with a worse QB situation than ours. I don't for a second think that Jimmy or Baker is likely to be a long-term solution. But we can't roll with what we've got and expect to win games. Outside of those two guys? Minshew could be traded for. Maybe Fitz could be coaxed out of retirement. I have tried to stay away from chatting about Mayfield, because I don't think I would like to spend 3 or 4 hours working on some wobbly pops with him. He is what I refer to as the curled lip. I could be all wrong about this but the curled lip is he thinks he is just a better human than some of us mortals. As far as his quaterbacking goes he suffers from the same thing. How many times have you seen him roll out on a scramble and be swallowed up very quickly. He thinks he is faster than he is and I can't see any reason at all he should feel this way. PFF saying Cleavland had the best O line, that and $6 plus dollars will get you an imperial gallon of gas, however I would put them in the top 25 % and higher than that in run blocking. What would make anybody think behind our young learning O line that he would become a better quarterback. Allow me one more chop, after he found out that the Colts didn't want him he gave us the curled lip answering he thought Seattle would be his destination. He was not enthused, he didn't say he would be thrilled to play in front of the 12s or anything close to that. I am sure P and J took note of that.
I have to say Kenneth I feel like our tightend group will be a positive for us this year. Will Dizzly will block well have 25 catches 4 Tds maybe 250 yards. Pete Carroll mentioned that Colby Parkinson made some great
catches during OTAs and that he had gained strength and just as importantly he has gained flexibility. The more flexible you are the better you can run and there is less chance of injury. Then we have Noah Fant, I have watched his highlights and he is a very impressive player. Unlike Dizzly I won't hazard a guess at his stats but to say, they will be the best by a Seahawk tightend in quite sometime. Also I feel there is better than average chance he will beat any numbers Jimmy Graham put up. He will be a safety blanket for Smith or Lock, and unlike Russ, Geno or Drew will use the middle of the field. No knock on Russ that just wasn't his Thang. Fant ran a 4.5/40 yard dash and he is 255lbs. If we play our cards right, the red zone should be a strength of ours. You have on the field, Colby Parkinson at 6ft7, Dk Metcalf around 6ft4, and Noha Fant at 6ft4. This will be tough to cover for any defense, if our O line can play to the league average.
I'd argue that winning a playoff game with the Browns is to overcome obstacles to become successful, even with all the caveats. It's the Cleveland Browns, for Pete's sake!
But yeah, I'd kick the tires on Baker Mayfield for some 4M and a fifth rounder, not more than that.
